December- On the Easel
I started another Dan Edmondson class series. This one is landscapes. The first was Ouray Falls. It was a challenge and utilized palette knife as well as brush strokes. It makes me want to go hiking! I have been doing a lot of decorative painting for a group I belong to so it was nice to just be free and "enjoy the paint" as Dan says.

Rocio's Roses

I finally finished this portrait of a bouquet of roses. My friend Rocio broughtthese flowers to a mutual friend's house where we spent the weekend painting together. It is such a blessing to get together with friends and paint. These roses were just glowing with yellow, peach and orange tints. Now I have a beautiful picture that is also a happy memory of friends.

In progress

I started a portrait of my granddaughter. I knew it needed more work, but sometimes I am afraid I am going to make a subject look worse instead of better, so I took a photo of this stage. The thing I don't like about oil painting is - there is no control-Z function! Once you make a mistake you live with it or correct it - you can't undo it.
Here I have worked on it a second time, moving the eyes further apart and adding darks and lights. It is still a long ways to go and I like some things about the first one better, but as Helen Van Wyk says "Make it, break it, and make it again." So I will forge ahead.

Painted Aprons

I painted these aprons for my grand kids, ages 6, 4 and 3. They were so quick and such fun to do. I did two of the girl cat with the cookies and added glitter. I plan to have a painting packet with instructions available soon. The plain aprons with the ruffle are available at Hobby Lobby and the straight canvas apron at Michael's Crafts. They were a hit with the children.
